It is with deep regret that I write to you today. Unfortunately, due to lack of support and participation, we have decided to cancel/postpone the Huntsville Pre-Tour ride to stop diabetes on April 14th. I sincerely appreciate your participation and support as we tried to find a solution for the Huntsville market for this transition year. Unfortunately, we are not where we need to be with this event in order to make money for diabetes research, education and advocacy. Our focus must always be on our mission—“To prevent and cure diabetes and improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.” It absolutely breaks my heart to cancel, but we simply cannot justify moving forward at this time.
I hope we can convince you to come and ride with us in Tour Alabama (May 12- Hoover) this year and hopefully you will join us at Tour de Cure Alabama at Lake Guntersville in 2013! We expect over 300 riders, and we have a fantastic day planned. I hope you can make it!! If there is anything I can do to make the Tour Alabama ride more amenable for you, please let me know.
If you choose to decline participation in our statewide event, we can fully refund your registration fee if you would like. Your donations would be greatly appreciated as the 500,000+ Alabamians with diabetes still need your support now more than ever, but we understand if you choose a refund. Or if you’d rather…we can apply any donations you received to the Alabama Tour OR apply it to your fundraising for next year. Please let me know at your earliest convenience which option you prefer.
It is difficult to make changes like moving to a statewide Tour de Cure instead of hosting 1 in each metro area as we have done in the past, but we believe that 1 event will better suite our organization’s needs and provide an opportunity for great growth and improvement in the future. We are VERY excited about 2013, and we hope you will join us again in the future. Again, I am truly devastated that we have had to make this difficult decision, but we feel it is the best interest of our organization to cancel the Pre-Tour ride at this time.
